Geography is the subject that connects people, places, and the planet. If you’re curious about how the world works and want to understand the big issues shaping our future, this is the course for you.

At A Level, you’ll explore physical and human geography through exciting topics:

  • Landscape Systems – Coastal Landscapes: Discover how coastlines are shaped and why they matter in a changing world.
  • Earth’s Life Support Systems: Understand the critical cycles that keep our planet alive and the challenges they face.
  • Changing Spaces; Making Places: Investigate how places develop their identity and the forces that transform them.
  • Global Governance – Human Rights & Power and Borders: Examine how global decisions affect people and nations, and why borders matter more than ever.
  • Disease Dilemmas: Explore the geography of health and the global fight against disease.
  • Hazardous Earth: Learn about natural hazards like earthquakes and volcanoes—and how societies respond.

How long is this course?

All of our A-Level courses are two-year courses. 

How will I be assessed for this course?

For this subject, students will be assessed through three examinations which will take place at the end of the second year of study. In addition to formal examinations, throughout the academic year, students will also undertake mock exams, which will also help to assess subject knowledge and prepare for formal examinations.

In addition to learning within the school environment, students will also undertake fieldwork as part of their assessment criteria for the course; completing an independent investigation worth 20% of their grade.

Entry Requirements

It is desired that students have gained or are working towards a GCSE qualification in Geography at grade 6 or above. Additionally students should have 5 GCSEs at grades 5-9 including Maths and English.

Students must be aged 16-19 to study this course.
