Our Unique Focus on Apprenticeships

We recognize the immense value of the ‘earn as you learn’ model, which includes progression to highly competitive Degree Apprenticeships (Level 6). Our commitment includes:

Established Expertise: UAH was the first school in the country to be offered the opportunity to deliver Apprenticeships and has since delivered over 1,000 apprenticeships to date.

Strong Industry Partnerships: We work closely with the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and local businesses to promote available opportunities, ensuring our students are aware of regional demand.

Dedicated Pathway Support: Throughout Year 13, the tutorial programme focuses explicitly on post-school employment:

  • Finding Opportunities (Week 24): Students are given guided time to research a ‘live’ job or apprenticeship they could apply for, including producing a pros and cons list for the role.
  • Application Preparation (Week 25): Focus shifts to preparing relevant documentation, ensuring CVs and cover letters are updated and tailored to suit the researched job.

Ongoing Support (Term 5): Dedicated pastoral sessions continue to offer support to find a job or apprenticeship in the crucial post-exam period (Weeks 29-31).

Developing Employability Skills

For all students seeking immediate employment or an apprenticeship, we embed essential professional training throughout the Sixth Form curriculum:

Work Experience Programme: All Year 12 students complete compulsory Work Experience, which provides invaluable workplace contacts and sector-specific experience.

Employer Encounters: Students benefit from talks on apprenticeships and are encouraged to attend our Careers Day, where they can engage directly with local and national employers and a professional careers company to hone their techniques.

One-to-One Guidance: Students have the opportunity to access personalized support from a professional careers advisor on a 1:1 basis.

Our robust, structured support ensures that UAH students are proactive in their job search, highly skilled, and prepared to enter the world of work or embark on a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship with confidence.
